thunderandflame celestialpervert 20 years ago, the world as it was ended. Much like ours with a very similar history, Victoria's world had a dark side. Monsters and old fashioned nightmares were real. She should know, she's one of them.
21 years ago, when she was alive, Victoria had been an artist, teaching and performing dance and an avid painter and artist, working as an illustrator. She was a mother of a 2 year old girl, Rhiannon and was trying to keep her marriage to touring musician, Liam alive and kicking. As life went, it wasn't stable but it was hers, and she lived for the challenge of it. When Liam suggests a holiday to visit his relatives in San Diego, a little break for family time, Vic takes the offer.
They were there for three days before they both went missing, leaving Rhiannon in the care of Liam's parents.
Taken by Lucrezia, a vampire of unique viciousness and seeking to understand the newest century, the couple are taken to be the newest in a long line of 'pets'. Using a combination of compulsion and mind games, she keeps them under her thumb, slowly turning Liam into a 'Renfield', a loyal, vampire blood addicted fiend and Victoria into a creature like her. Using the life of Liam and her daughter as leverage, Lucrezia keeps Victoria by her side for over a year, travelling the world before she finds the means to escape. An accidental meeting with Lucrezia's own creator, an elder vampire by the name of Marus, gives her the best weapon. Knowledge of how to slay their own kind.
It's on a boat off the shore of California that she makes her move. Cutting Lucrezia's throat during the middle of the day, Victoria attempts to bring Liam with her, in love with him still despite what he's become. Unfortunately, Lucrezia's hold is stronger and he fights to save his mistress, trying to kill Victoria in the process. During the struggle, she entraps him in the anchor chain and sends him overboard. In an attempt to ensure the death of her sire, she sets the boat alight and swims to shore.
Using money stolen from Lucrezia, she gets herself to her In Laws and takes back her child in the middle of the night, unwilling to face them or reveal her changed nature. She flees the US, returning to her home country of Australia, taking refuge in Sydney. A month later, everything changes.
